Respect for the environment
At Ovidias, respect for the environment is not limited to attention to raw materials, the production process of our products, or the ecological precautions of our suppliers.
Every day, we commit ourselves to respecting nature and giving back what it gives us by minimising our ecological footprint.
Ecological footprint
Reduce CO2 emissions by 50%
Ovidias will reduce its CO2 emissions by 50% by 2030.
Last year, Ovidias already invested in making its production site more sustainable.
For example, a new refrigeration plant based on completely natural refrigerants was recently put into operation.
Ovidias does not make empty promises; rather, it takes its commitments very seriously and follows the “Science Based Targets”.
Procurement of sustainable raw materials
Procurement of sustainable chocolate
92% of our purchased chocolate is certified. By 2024, we will purchase 100% certified chocolate. The certified chocolate represents sustainable agriculture and better opportunities for farmers, their families, and our planet.
The Rainforest Alliance and Fairtrade programme enables farmers to learn better farming methods, improve working conditions, and take better care of their children and the environment.
Through these programmes, farmers grow better crops, generate more income, and create better opportunities while protecting the environment and safeguarding the earth’s natural resources. Now and in the future.
Use of natural ingredients
‘Producing the most delicious Belgian chocolates’ is the Ovidias team’s passion.
That’s why we are sharply focused on the strictest quality requirements for food.
Ovidias uses natural ingredients for the preparation of fresh Belgian chocolates. The delicious fillings, according to the traditional Ovidias recipes, are prepared in our own kitchens.
Ovidias guarantees that only raw materials that are certified GMO (genetically modified organisms) free are used for the manufacturing of its chocolates.
No additives or preservatives
We do not add preservatives or colourings to our chocolates. Our recipes contain mainly natural flavourings, so you can enjoy honest and fresh Belgian chocolates.
Sustainable palm oil
The Certified Sustainable Palm Oil label from the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) indicates that the palm oil in a product contributes to sustainable palm oil production.
Palm oil is notorious for, among other things, deforestation of tropical rainforests. At the same time, palm oil is one of the most efficient vegetable oils.
RSPO is an international organisation in which companies and environmental organisations (including the WWF and Oxfam Novib) make efforts to make palm oil cultivation more sustainable worldwide.
We don’t add palm oil directly. It is present in the ingredients needed to make our caramelised biscuits filling (speculoos) and coconut filling.
Procurement of packaging
In addition to the quality of its chocolates, Ovidias also pays a lot of attention to its packaging.
All our packaging is 100% recyclable. The cardboard, the aluminium cans, the foil, etc.
Why are all our chocolates individually wrapped?
This, too, has a sustainability reason. This not only means that we use 50% less plastic, compared to using a traditional blister, but we also reduce the amount of food waste. After all, the environmental impact of food waste is at least as high as that of plastic.
The video below explains this even more clearly.
THIS WAY, WE HOPE TO DO OUR BIT FOR A BETTER WORLD TOGETHER WITH OUR EMPLOYEES!
