Storing chocolate: tips and tricks

Storing chocolate: tips and tricks

To spoil surprise visitors or simply as a little treat for yourself: it’s never a bad idea to keep some chocolate in your house. But how long can you keep chocolate? And what’s the best way to store it? You can read all about it in this article.

Keep chocolate away from light, air and strong odours

When storing chocolate, it’s important to keep it away from light and air. Contact with any of these could lead to oxidation; a process which makes the chocolate’s fat disintegrate. This can cause flavour changes as well as an unpleasant smell.

Apart from light and air, avoid storing chocolate near strong-smelling products like cheese or fish. Chocolate has the tendency to absorb these smells and this can affect the taste. That’s why you should always store chocolate in a tightly closed container or sealed in plastic wrap.

You should be the first to touch our precious chocolates

At Ovidias, we only want to offer our customers the highest quality. That’s why we pay a lot of attention to the packaging of our chocolates. Each chocolate is individually wrapped in a fresh pack, while the can creates an extra safe environment. This makes storing the chocolate really easy, away from light, air or strong odours. And you will be the first person to touch the chocolate.

Besides that, we strongly advise you to store our chocolate in the fridge, between 0 and 7°C. This is how the taste is conserved and the shelf life extended.
